I saw this movie during the 10th edition of and I was quite impressed.
Based on a novel by Motoya Yukiko Funuke, Show Some Love, You Losers, it’s the debut effort by tv commercial director Yoshida Daihachi and it was screened at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

plot
Failed actress Wago Sumika (Sato Eriko) is heading home to attend her parents’ funeral. She left on terrible terms four years ago, and is now returning dead broke, hoping the inheritance will ease her woes a bit. No such luck. Big brother Shinji (Nagase Masatoshi) curtly informs her there’s no money to be had, and Sumika finds herself stuck in the village with her nervous, comic-drawing little sister Kyomi (Satsukawa Aimi) and incessantly perky sister-in-law Machiko (Nagasaku Hiromi). Newly inducted into the Wago family, Machiko moved to the countryside to look for peace, normalcy, and
yarn to feed her DIY doll-making compulsion, but instead she becomes witness to a sibling feud that reveals some eyebrow-raising secrets. (yesasia.com)

Featuring an incredible and talented cast, this movie is something great. You will laugh, get angry, think and cry. Beautiful and shiny colours, smart dialogues and a winning soundtrack (including the marvellous ending theme song “sekai ga owaru ni yoru” by chatmonchy)…you can’t go wrong with this! A little masterpiece you can’t miss! One of the best, new japanese movies out there!
