“It’s your life, so what are you going to do? The world is watching you. Everyday the choices you make say what you are and who your heart beats for.”

-Francesca Battistelli

Today I have been listening to “It’s Your Life” by Francesca Battistelli on repeat. My favorite lyric/line in the entire song is what is quoted at the beginning of this post. Mostly, I like the “who your heart beats for” part. I am constantly reminded how easy it is to be swayed by the world around me. It is too easy to allow the world to tell me who I am, and who I should be. Not to mention, how easily I fall short of what is expected of me. However, how blessed are we to have a God who is so in love with us, that not matter how many times we fall short He never loves us any less. (And lets face it, we will always fall short, but that’s what makes His love for us so incredible).

This whole concept of “It’s your life, what are you going to do?” can seem really daunting. Yeah,  according to the world this is my life. I think this song addresses the reality that we have all been given a life, one life, and it questions what we will do with it.

Does your heart beat for the world? Or for the One who has given you life? Because our decisions will answer these questions for us. At times we might question, can it be true that the choices we make say what we are and who our hearts beat for? Sure, absolutely. While our past decisions do not define us, the choices we continue to make will say who we are living for, who our heart beats for. As Christians, we should want and strive to live a life that is holy and pleasing to God. Every single day we need to ask ourselves if the choices we are making are glorifying ourselves, or our Savior. Are we living a life for the world, or for the Gospel? We will always fall short, we are not perfect, and we will mess up, but we should never give up.

A lyric/line later in the song says “This is your opportunity to let your life be one that lights the way.” This is an amazing truth! We have the greatest privilege to choose to live a life for Christ everyday and be a light in this world. Living your life for Jesus does not just mean going to church on Sundays or setting your religious beliefs to say “Christian” on Facebook. It means striving to live a life holy and pleasing to God, not just at Church or every once in a while. It means in everything we say and do, let me reiterate, in every word that comes out of our mouths and in every choice we make, we should be striving to glorify God.
