Fearne Cotton Lipgloss Disappointment

Throughout the whole of 2011 and 2012 Fearne Cotton had her own makeup range in Boots but it was only when a received a lip gloss quartet from her brand for Christmas 2012, that I managed to try something from it. The lip glosses look like this:

I don’t really like the packaging, it must be said. The black and white striped tops make them look quite cheap and aside from that, there’s nothing really stand-out about them. The colours didn’t have any names so, in case you can’t see the photo above, they came in a fire-engine red, a shimmery pink nude (which I really liked the look of), a bright coral and a baby pink. As you may be able to tell, this quartet covers a wide spectrum of popular lip colours so in theory, there should be an appropriate shade for every occasion.

Aside from the nude shade, all of the glosses were really pigmented and it only took a couple of swipes to achieve the colour intensity on my hand, pictured here:

For what I assume was quite an inexpensive set, I was quite surprised at just how vibrant the colours were and it gave me hope for a good performance from the four of them. I was right in my prediction that they would be long-lasting, that’s for sure. The coral and red colours, especially, stayed on my lips for hours without budging. However, that’s where I run out of positive things to say about them.

The pink, coral and red were, without a doubt, the most un-wearable colours I have ever come across. They were so unflattering that I could only trial them out round the house, for fear that someone in public would see me wearing such awful colours. The red was far too garish to wear and the coral was way too bright and orange toned. It made me look as though I had carrots for lips. The baby pink was equally disappointing. It did not suit my pale skin tone at all. It made my teeth look yellowy and my face look ghost-ish and even whiter. The nude was the only colour that I deemed acceptable to wear outside but even this one, I felt, did nothing for me.

The formulation was equally disappointing. The glosses didn’t go on smoothly and seem to coagulate on my lips which was as gruesome as it sounds. On the plus side, they didn’t feel unpleasant to wear as they weren’t too sticky but that’s about the only bit of praise I can give them in this area.

So overall, you can tell that I was not impressed with these lip glosses at all. I don’t know what the other make up is like in her range but if you spy some of her lip gloss while you’re out and about, I would advise you to spend your money on some nice Rimmel or Maybelline instead.

If anyone has tried them and liked them then leave me a comment below. I want to know if I’m the only one who’s giving mine away?
